New Program Starts January 16, 2018 at the Olean BOCES Center
Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES held a special graduation ceremony to recognize the ten most recent graduates of its Dental Assisting program. The ceremony was held at the Career and Technical Education Center at Olean on Thursday, September 28. The graduates completed a one-year, 620-hour course approved by the New York State Education Department. They are now eligible to take the state's Dental Assisting Licensing Examination. The graduates included: Stephanie Butts, Olean; Alexis Crimmins, Olean; Brooke Downey, Rixford (PA); Lisa Kostelny, West Valley; Payton Low, Wellsville; Brittni Orner, Smethport (PA); Caitlynn Pettit, Bolivar; Stephanie Rauber, Arkport; Allyson Seamans, Franklinville; and Sara VanArsdale, Olean. Instructors Elain Alcorn and Cheryl Gelder guided the adult students through the curriculum as well as 200-hour internships at various local dental offices. BOCES Coordinator of Health Occupations Catherine Tomerlin said five of the ten graduates actually gained employment as dental assistants during the program.
