Raises pending for some Allegany County workers, but first, a public hearing

Eight workers for Allegany County will likely receive raises soon. Before that can happen, there will be a ceremonial and required public hearing in the middle of a work day later this month. While some county residents may want to offer comments during the hearing, few, if any, will take a half day vacation to drive to Belmont to speak. Allegany County is meeting its legal obligation to hold a public hearing. However, lawmakers shouldn't believe that an empty gallery is a signal of acceptance. Most likely, it means, that 2 p.m. public hearings are crazy. But it happens and has happened for decades. And even if the hearing was held in the evening, the turnout would likely be the same. Zero.
So...here is what will happen. On Tuesday when the legislature meets, they will vote to hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. on October 23rd to discuss a proposed local law boosting the salaries for a few. These workers probably have earned it...I casually know most, and they seem dedicated to the job. I suppose if you can't make this or any public hearing, you can always call, email or speak directly to the elected official (well in advance) and share your thoughts.
Here are the proposed raises:
I'll have to give credit where credit is due. Allegany County does advance this information to the media well in advance. For that, I say thank you.
